Road trip begins in early July
A 911 call was made by a Moab resident who witnessed the alleged altercation and was concerned enough to report it to authorities. Mr Laundrie presented an idyllic picture of the couple’s relationship on social media, posting pictures of them kissing, and posing for pictures together smiling. Ms Petito’s mother Nichole Schmidt told the Daily Mail she believed the couple may have called off their engagement ahead of the trip because they were still so young. The search for Mr Laundrie is largely focused on the Carlton Reserve in Florida, which is close to the Laundrie’s family home in North Port. Mr Laundrie’s parents say he headed to the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, which connects with the reserve, for a hike on 14 September.

The search for the 22-year-old blogger came to an end when law enforcement discovered human remains, later identified as those of Gabby, in the Spread Creek Dispersed Camping Area in Wyoming, near where she was last seen alive.
They started out on their trip soon afterward and documented the journey extensively between July 4 and August 25. They reportedly traveled through Kansas, Colorado and Utah, where they are believed to have stayed the longest. The image was found on Petito’s phone during the investigation into her death. Attorneys argued in a press release that Petito was „violently assaulted,” but accused Moab police officers of ignoring the evidence when they responded to the call. Laundrie’s lawyer put out another statement, reaffirming that Laundrie would refuse to cooperate with the investigation. „We beg you to do the right thing and help us bring Gabby home. The damages were awarded by a court after they found his parents acted improperly when their daughter-in-law vanished before being found dead in August last year. Mr Laundrie’s social media accounts show a man presenting himself as outdoorsy, a loving and devoted boyfriend, and an artist with conspiratorial leanings. But witness reports described a very different picture of Mr Laundrie’s treatment of his partner. A couple of days before they posted their video, a man called police to report that he saw the couple arguing outside a food cooperative called Moonflower in Moab, Utah. Two years ago, Petito had reportedly moved in with Laundrie in his parents’ home in North Port, Florida. Mr Laundrie does not appear to have been in full-time employment, but he did earn money selling his artworks online.
